Today is the second annual Wrongful Conviction Day, which was launched internationally by the Association of Defence of the Wrongfully Convicted (AIDWYC) on\u00a0<b>October 2<\/b>\u00a0last year.<\/p>\n<p>he Innocence Project was established in the wake of a study by the\u00a0<a title=\"United States Department of Justice\" href=\"https:\/\/disruptarian.com\/blog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/United_States_Department_of_Justice\">United States Department of Justice<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"United States Senate\" href=\"https:\/\/disruptarian.com\/blog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/United_States_Senate\">United States Senate<\/a>, in conjunction with the\u00a0<a title=\"Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law\" href=\"https:\/\/disruptarian.com\/blog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Benjamin_N._Cardozo_School_of_Law\">Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law<\/a>, which found that incorrect identification by eyewitnesses was a factor in over 70% of wrongful convictions.<sup id=\"cite_ref-midatlfact_7-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/disruptarian.com\/blog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Innocence_Project#cite_note-midatlfact-7\">[7]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The original Innocence Project was founded in 1992 by Scheck and Neufeld as part of the Cardozo School of Law of\u00a0<a title=\"Yeshiva University\" href=\"https:\/\/disruptarian.com\/blog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Yeshiva_University\">Yeshiva University<\/a>\u00a0in New York City. It became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2003 but maintains institutional connections with Cardozo.\u00a0\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-faq_8-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>As of September 5, 2018 the executive director of the Innocence Project is Madeline deLone.\u00a0\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-9\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>The Innocence Project has become widespread as countries are using scientific data to overturn wrongful convictions and in turn freeing those wrongly convicted. One such example exists in the Republic of Ireland wherein 2009 a project was set up at Griffith College, Dublin.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-10\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"r\"><a href=\"https:\/\/disruptarian.com\/blog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/www.innocenceproject.org\">Innocence Project &#8211; Help us put an end to wrongful convictions!<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/disruptarian.com\/blog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/watch?v=AKLemkWoHUw\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PBS did a report on wrongful convictions today October <\/a>2nd 2018<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"The toll of the justice system on the wrongfully convicted\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AKLemkWoHUw?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"cc-container-cnlibahlccceecnjljbjhbpmkggfekkn\">Ricky Jackson became a free man after 39 years in prison when Judge Richard McMonagle threw out his conviction on a 1975 murder at a Cleveland grocery store based on a lie by then 12-year-old Eddie Vernon. Vernon recanted his story this week to set<\/span>In the US, state laws governing compensation for wrongfully convicted people vary significantly. While some states offer sizable packages for the exonerated, at least 20 offer nothing. And even for those that do, it may not be enough to make up for the emotional damage on those who've been wrongfully convicted. Hari Sreenivasan reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With the advent of scientific testing such as DNA matching, wrongfully convicted convicts are seeing their day in court and justice being served as over 1600 US Citizens have been exonerated of crimes that they have not committed, and just in 2018, over 51 suspects have been exonerated this year alone.<\/p>\n<p>The crime itself is often horrible, from murder, to robbery to rape.\u00a0 But to spend years in prison from a conviction on a crime that one has not committed has to be absolutely torturous, and to add insult to injury many states offer no compensation what-so-ever for wrongful convictions.<\/p>\n<p>These are my thoughts on wrongful convictions in the USA on the following youtube video.<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"560\"
