\u201cI\u2019m working-class English,\u201d Lydon explained, defending his support for Trump. \u201cIt makes complete sense to vote for a person who actually talks about my kind of people.\u201d He saw Trump\u2019s populist rhetoric as a voice for those marginalized by elitist politics\u2014a sentiment echoed in his support for Brexit, which he viewed as a reclaiming of national identity by everyday people.<\/p>\n

Cancel Culture and Wokeism: A New Establishment<\/h3>\n

Lydon\u2019s criticism of cancel culture and wokeism further underscores his shift. To him, these modern movements represent a new form of authoritarianism, where dissent is silenced and groupthink prevails. \u201cIt used to be the right that was intolerant,\u201d he observed, \u201cbut now the left is just as bad.\u201d For Lydon, punk wasn\u2019t about towing the line\u2014it was about questioning everything.<\/p>\n
