The Justice Department & FBI released a memo declaring no credible evidence of a client list or an Epstein blackmail operation.  Bondi followed by releasing heavily redacted \u201cEpstein Files\u201d\u2014grand jury transcripts and court records\u2014but with no new smoking\u2011gun revelations. Critics lambasted the effort as political theater, likening it to a \u201credacted nothing\u201d stunt rather than genuine transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trump\u2019s \u201cTroublemakers\u201d Label<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On July 19, 2025, Trump took to Truth Social and the White House lawn to announce he\u2019d asked the Justice Department to post \u201call Grand Jury testimony\u201d tied to Epstein. Yet he immediately lashed out at anyone who demanded more, calling them \u201ctroublemakers\u201d and \u201cradical left lunatics\u201d\u2014admitting that \u201cnothing will be good enough\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is classic Trump: promise radical transparency, then denounce anyone insisting you follow through. For free-market patriots, this is a double betrayal\u2014playing transparency as a campaign prop while actively sidelining deeper scrutiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pam Bondi\u2019s Role: On the Hook or in the Tank?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Bondi, a former Florida AG known to many on the right, was handed this issue straight from the Trump desk in February. But when the big reveal came, her releases were so redacted she was accused of shredding meaningful content to protect insiders. In July, the DOJ and FBI memo bluntly stated: \u201cno credible evidence\u201d of a client list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watchdog conservatives and libertarians are divided: was Bondi under political pressure? Did she genuinely conclude there was nothing? Or was this another Big Government dodge\u2014appearing to cooperate while stashing away embarrassing truths?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Enter Elon Musk: \u201cTrump Is in the Files\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The drama didn\u2019t end with Bondi\u2019s bomb\u2011drop memo. Enter Elon Musk\u2014founder\u2011CEO, libertarian iconoclast, and internet provocateur\u2014who stoked the fire. In late June and early July, Musk claimed Trump was <em>in<\/em> the Epstein Files\u2014and that this was why they hadn\u2019t been released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though lodged in conspiracy\u2011theory territory, this caused ripples across MAGA circles. If Musk was saying Trump was self\u2011incriminating, it gave ammunition to those demanding full release. But skeptics pointed out Musk offered no proof\u2014just a tease that fueled hours of media coverage and Twitter storms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The result: Elon got Trump's defenders screaming, Trump got defensive, and transparency advocates got suspicious\u2014but short on evidence. Meanwhile, the swamp stayed muddy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pam Bondi vs. The White House \u201cList Doesn\u2019t Exist\u201d Spin<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Soon after Musk\u2019s insinuations, Bondi and her PSU (press secretary) pushed back\u2014saying the files they\u2019ve released are the only ones that exist, and there\u2019s no client list. Tim Burchett, double\u2011downed for transparency, saying Trump\u2019s \u201cfiling it as a hoax\u201d was reckless.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Others, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, defended the White House\u2019s action and rationalized Bondi\u2019s position as sufficient.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The conservative base is asking: did MAGA swamp reboot into Trump\u2019s administration with different personnel\u2014and the same old lack of transparency?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trump vs. Musk: The New Sideshow<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Trump\u2013Musk interaction over Epstein files is emblematic of the post\u2011Trump era\u2019s weird media horse\u2011race. As Musk telegraphed subtext, Trump balked at conspiracies\u2014calling files \u201cfake\u201d and blaming Democrats, Obama, Biden, and Comey for inventing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then Trump banned the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> from his Scotland press pool after they ran a damaging story involving a naked\u2011woman birthday portrait from Epstein\u2019s possessions. Trump then sued WSJ and Rupert Murdoch for defamation, alleging the story was false.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn\u2019t just Trump protecting his reputation\u2014it\u2019s a broader tactic: media backlash means censorship, lawsuits, and stoking resentment among his base. But independent free market thinkers see this as dangerous\u2014clamping down on press access while proclaiming a commitment to transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MAGA Revolts & Swamp Swirl: Where\u2019s the Accountability?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many conservatives trust Trump above federal agencies. But when the DOJ says no list, and Trump calls all inquiries a politically driven \u201choax,\u201d red flags appear. Voices from Trump\u2019s movement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Marjorie Taylor Greene<\/strong> warned Trump he risks alienating his base if he doesn\u2019t deliver the full files.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Steve Bannon, Dan Bongino, Tucker Carlson<\/strong>, and even <strong>Mike Pence<\/strong> began publicly questioning delays and demanding more disclosure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The backlash resulted in what Sidney Blumenthal in <em>The Guardian<\/em> called \u201cTrump\u2019s ghost of Epstein\u201d haunting MAGA\u2014forcing MAGA-focused enforcers to turn on Trump\u2019s brand of opacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Libertarians can sympathize. Wanting truth and accountability doesn\u2019t make you a \u201ctroublemaker\u201d \u2014 it makes you a citizen. Trust, but verify\u2014and both parties are failing to validate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ryan \u201cDickie\u201d Thompson: The Swamp With New Faces<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On the sidelines, commentator Ryan \u201cDickie\u201d Thompson summed it up: \u201cI thought we were draining the swamp. But still the same swamp, just different faces.\u201d That's the libertarian take: swapping names doesn't change the problem. When power is centralized, access to secrets remains in elite hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This swamp is robust:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Politicized prosecutions<\/strong>\u2014Maria Farmer\u2019s new revelation that she warned the FBI about Trump as early as 1996, which was sidelined\u2014all while Trump denies wrongdoing and tries to control the narrative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Media light\u2011switch<\/strong>\u2014Stories appear, then disappear. WSJ pen-tainted? Booted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Swamp dialect<\/strong>\u2014\u201cList doesn\u2019t exist.\u201d \u201cFiles are redacted.\u201d \u201cNothing will satisfy.\u201d These are rule-of-law contradictions masked as leadership.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Libertarian Manifesto for Real Transparency<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What would real accountability look like?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Independent review<\/strong>: Congress should subpoena records under constitutional rules, with bipartisan oversight. No executive theater.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Full declassification\u2014or none<\/strong>: Choose clarity or silence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Apology and reform<\/strong>: If mistakes were made, AG or President should say so\u2014and pledge executive reform (protections, whistleblower avenues, judicial oversight).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>End politicization<\/strong>: Investigations shouldn\u2019t be party tools. Laws should bind all equally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, libertarians may bridle at letting government snoop deeper, but the principle isn't Big Government\u2014it\u2019s the Right to Know when government power is used for secrecy. And citizens defending liberty must be wary when institutions invoke secrecy to evade obligations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion: Swamp 2.0?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Epstein affair has exposed cracks in MAGA\u2019s promise of draining the swamp. Trump's theatrics\u2014calling critics troublemakers, accusing Democrats of fabricating files\u2014place loyalty above transparency. Elon Musk\u2019s conspiracy tease threw kerosene, but revealed little else. Pam Bondi\u2019s redactions and DOJ\u2019s \u201cno list\u201d stance brought some clarity\u2014but not nearly enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Ryan Thompson warns, it's still the swamp\u2014with fresh masks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A free society thrives when government offers clear rules, not hearsay and redactions.
