Is a home battery charger worth buying if my car sits for weeks?
Is a home battery charger worth buying if my car sits for weeks?
I travel a lot for work, and my Honda CR-V sometimes sits in the parking lot for two or three weeks. Every time I come back, the engine cranks slowly, and twice I needed a jump start from the security guy. He told me I should buy a charger and keep the battery topped up, but I have never owned one and honestly do not know where to start. Last night I read a Best Varta battery charger guide in Dubai, and what I understood is that there are different types, and that a smart charger which slows down when the battery is full is safer than an old basic one that keeps pushing power. That made sense to me, but now I have more questions. Can I leave a charger connected for days, or should I only use it for a few hours? Do I need to take the battery out of the car, or can I charge it where it is? Also, is it safe to do this in the parking area in summer heat, or should I find a cooler spot? Another thing is the amps. Does a bigger charger charge faster, or can it damage a small battery? If you have used one on a car that sits for long periods, please tell me which type you bought, what you paid, and if it really made a difference. Easy answers are best, I am a beginner.
