In the world of guerrilla journalism and media disruption, James O'Keefe was a name synonymous with fearless, high-risk exposure of institutional corruption. For over a decade, Project Veritas carried out undercover operations that rattled the establishment, exposing everything from voter fraud to corporate malfeasance. But in early 2023, O'Keefe found himself ousted from the very organization he founded. The question many asked: how does the founder of a company, its visionary and lifeblood, get removed by the board he helped assemble?

Thanks to a new documentary and the recent May 23rd, 2025 episode of “On the Inside” hosted by O'Keefe himself, we now have answers—answers that reveal not just a power struggle, but a textbook case of betrayal fueled by ego, hidden financial interests, and perhaps, deeper federal entanglements.

The O'Keefe Tapes and Joe Rogan's Callout

Joe Rogan recently asked a powerful question on air: why hasn't O'Keefe released the tapes detailing his departure? The truth is, he has. In a bold move, O'Keefe released depositions and internal communications proving a disturbing pattern of behavior by Project Veritas board members—ranging from perjury under oath to obscenely unethical conduct, including investment conflicts while Project Veritas was targeting those very companies.

Board members had financial interests in companies tied to Big Pharma, including entities that could potentially be acquired by Pfizer—one of Project Veritas’ primary investigative targets. This isn't conspiracy. It's in sworn testimony.

The Culture of Cowardice and Corporate Sabotage

RC Maxwell, a former employee and insider, described how only a few staffers were truly brave enough to confront the betrayal. The organization that once bore the slogan “Be Brave. Do Something” found its upper echelon mired in cowardice and backstabbing. Whispers turned into coups, and the mission was derailed by those who lacked the spine to stand by O'Keefe when it mattered most.

In my own experience, I know exactly what O'Keefe endured. Years ago, in my own media venture, I partnered with someone I thought was a friend and ally. To my face, she was loyal; in our social circles, she sung my praises. But behind closed doors, she was actively undermining me, positioning herself to seize power and shift our mission. When the dust settled, I was left betrayed by someone who pretended to believe in our work.

Betrayal by colleagues is one of the hardest realities to stomach. It poisons trust and undermines the very fabric of what libertarians hold dear: voluntary cooperation and moral integrity. When the inner circle turns, it doesn't just hurt the individual—it cripples the cause.

Legal Deceit and Financial Subversion

O'Keefe's documentary reveals that Project Veritas board members, under oath, flippantly made up financial claims against him. One board member stated O'Keefe owed them “$785,00023″—a number so absurd it defies logic. When asked to clarify, he claimed it came from a “confidential algorithm.”

Board members also offered raises to staff in exchange for restructuring the company without O'Keefe. One email reveals a disgusting internal discussion about auctioning off O'Keefe’s girlfriend’s undergarments—a so-called joke that crosses every ethical line. Another board member openly mocked O'Keefe for not being able to afford his Connecticut mansion.

These are not the actions of principled journalists. These are the tactics of oligarchs.

A Cautionary Tale for the Liberty Movement

O'Keefe's story is a reminder that liberty is always vulnerable to corruption from within. Whether it's a nonprofit, a media company, or even a government, power attracts the wrong kind of people if safeguards aren't in place.

It also proves something critical: movements based on truth must have integrity at their core. Without it, even the most successful organization can be rotted from the inside by those who are more interested in power than principle.

As libertarians, we believe in bottom-up accountability, transparency, and voluntary association. The betrayal of O'Keefe shows us what happens when those principles are discarded in favor of control, ego, and centralization.

This is not the end of James O'Keefe. If anything, it's a new beginning. O'Keefe Media Group (OMG) rises from the ashes with even more public support, more mission clarity, and the wisdom of painful experience. The movement doesn't die with betrayal—it evolves.

Let that be a lesson to every board, every founder, and every activist: Stay vigilant, stay grounded, and above all, stay honest.
