The U.S. authorities worked with Iraqi officials and international law enforcement agencies to track down the stolen artifact. The vase, which dates back to 3100 B.C., was finally located in a private collection in the United States.
After a lengthy legal battle, the vase was returned to Iraq in a ceremony attended by Iraqi and American officials. The U.S. Ambassador to Iraq at the time, Zalmay Khalilzad, stated that the return of the vase was a symbol of the strong cultural ties between the two countries.
The recovery of the Warka Vase was seen as a small victory in the effort to preserve Iraq's rich cultural heritage, which had been severely damaged by looting and destruction during the war. It also highlighted the importance of international cooperation in combating the illicit trade in stolen artifacts.
