THIS WAS A GREAT PROJECT
Echoes of Power (Intro) Echoes of power, they tried to control, But Jah’s truth rises, breaking the hold. From ancient scrolls to the sands of time, Wisdom and knowledge, they rise and shine.
Inspired by Ryan Thompson’s book of the same name, “Echoes of Power,” this song reflects the themes of spiritual resilience and the uncovering of suppressed truths explored in his groundbreaking work, which delves into the shadows of early Christianity.
(Verse 1) In the days of Rome, they took the word, Changed the truth from what was heard. At the Council of Nicea, books were cast away, They molded the story to fit their way. The Gospel of Truth and the Gospel of Mary, Lost to the ages, no one to carry. They shaped the scriptures, removed what was real, But Jah’s true wisdom, no power can steal.
(Chorus) Echoes of power, they fade away, Jah’s light still shines, brighter each day. They censored the truth, they tried to hide, But from Nag Hammadi, wisdom survived. The scrolls were found, the knowledge revealed, Jah’s truth can never be concealed.
(Verse 2) In Nag Hammadi, the desert sand, The Gnostic texts were found by man. The Gospel of Thomas and Judas too, Showed the light that Babylon withdrew. The Hypostasis of the Archons speaks of the fall, How rulers of darkness tried to bind us all. But Jah’s wisdom echoes across the ages, Defying the tyranny of the old church’s cages.
(Chorus) Echoes of power, they fade away, Jah’s light still shines, brighter each day. They censored the truth, they tried to hide, But from Nag Hammadi, wisdom survived. The scrolls were found, the knowledge revealed, Jah’s truth can never be concealed.
(Bridge) The Roman Church, they tried to reign, Through censorship, fear, and endless pain. But Jah’s truth, it slipped through their grasp, From the hidden scrolls, we hear wisdom’s gasp. The Gospel of Philip spoke of the flame, The union of love, and calling Jah’s name. And The Thunder, Perfect Mind cried out strong, A voice of the feminine, hidden so long.
(Chorus) Echoes of power, they fade away, Jah’s light still shines, brighter each day. They censored the truth, they tried to hide, But from Nag Hammadi, wisdom survived. The scrolls were found, the knowledge revealed, Jah’s truth can never be concealed.
(Verse 3) Through ages of darkness and tyranny’s hand, Jah’s truth found a way to rise and stand. The Council of Nicea tried to dictate, But the spirit of wisdom, they couldn’t sedate. The Gnostic scriptures speak clear and bright, Revealing Jah’s path and the inner light. No more chains from the Church’s creed, Jah’s love and knowledge are all we need.
(Chorus) Echoes of power, they fade away, Jah’s light still shines, brighter each day. They censored the truth, they tried to hide, But from Nag Hammadi, wisdom survived. The scrolls were found, the knowledge revealed, Jah’s truth can never be concealed.
(Outro) So we chant for freedom, we chant for truth, For Jah’s wisdom, ancient and youth. The echoes of power, they weaken and fall, But Jah’s light rises, and shines for all. From the hidden texts to the Rasta chant, We break the chains and stand defiant.
