The Alaska Aerospace Corporation wants to develop a Pacific Spaceport Complex-Hawaiʻi, or PSCH, on Shipman lands in Keaʻau and is beginning the state and federal environmental assessment process for the project.
On February 6th 2019 the Alaska Aerospace Corporation had a community meeting for the local residents to voice their concerns as well as to learn more about the proposal and to be able to ask questions.
The meeting showed that the local citizens were highly opposed to the project and there were several vocal demonstrations within the meeting from local citizens.
I was not able to attend the meeting but I have had a lot of conversations with people who did attend, and neighbors who live close to our family (we live about 8 miles from the proposed location of this project). So I wanted to bring up the topic to a broader audience to get feedback from others, and to provide sources of information that I have been able to find.
So far not much information has been offered since they are still in the planning stages, and there is an environmental assessment pending. However this company also operates in Alaska (hence the name) and they do rocket launches there. So we can assess some of the history of this company and their operations.
