When I was a teen I was heavily into punk and surf music. The lyrics were edgy and disruptive, from the Dead Kennedy’s, Minor Threat, and many others including the Butthole Surfers who influenced my teen years.
The Butthole surfers while not one of my goto bands for mixed tapes, or playlists, I did enjoying musing on the lyrics of the song Pepper.
Lyrics
Mikey got with Sharon, Sharon got Sheriee
She was sharin’ Sharon’s outlook on the topic of disease
Mikey had a facial scar and Bobby was a rapist
They were all in love dying they were doin’ it in Texas
Tommy played piano like a kid out in the rain
Then he lost his leg in Dallas he was dancin’ with the train
They were all in love with dying they were drinkin’ from a fountian
That is pouring like an avalance coming down the mountian
I don’t mind the sun sometimes the images it shows
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look through other people’s eyes
Some will die in hot pursuit and firey auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit while sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life and drink it from a fountian
That is pouring like and avalance coming down the mountian
I don’t mind the sun sometimes the images it shows
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look through other people’s eyes
Another Mikey took a knife while arguing in traffic
Flipper died a natural death he caught a nasty virus
Then there was the ever-present football player rapist
They were all in love with dying they were doin’ it in Texas
Holly caught a bullet but it only hit his leg
While it should have been a better shot he got him in the head
They were all in love with dying they were drinkin’ from a fountian
That was pouring like an avalance coming down the mountian
I don’t mind the sun sometimes the images it shows
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look through other people’s eyes
An interpretation that I have come to, both from my own observations and observations of others.
The song illustrates the point of view of characters in the song.
I don’t mind the sun sometimes, the images it shows (people look at the sun are dumb it blinds them, but they do it anyway)
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes (sexual innuendo)
Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies (this is either a reference to heroin or another sexual innuendo, or both)
You never know just how to look through other people’s eyes (they don’t know themselves so they do what they think other people think they should do themselves)1
This song is based on sick people seriously.
Some will die in hot pursuit in fiery auto crashes (I better slow the fuck down in my car!)
Some will die in hot pursuit while sifting through my ashes (sifting through ashes may imply inheriting money)
Some will fall in love with life and drink it from a fountain (live like there’s no tomorrow, fountains symbolize eternity)
That is pouring like an avalanche, coming down the mountain (but they will die in this so its like what’s the point?)
Reckless people meet death…
Recently on a local Hawaiian message board, a study was presented about sex workers and purchasing sex online in Hawaii, from a recent study
by the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women and Arizona State University School of Social Work suggests the response to online advertisements for sex is far greater in Hawaii than other places in the United States. This groundbreaking study is the first to look at the behavior of sex buyers in Hawaii, where currently there is no active strategy to address prostitution demand.
This was the article referenced, which did not point out the specifics of the study. When I quoted this I was unaware that this was only a study on women looking for men.
VIDEO: Hawaii Sex Trafficking Report Explores Online Buyers
The article does not give any specifics of the demographics, or of which groups were studied, it just said that one in ten men in Hawaii would purchase sexual services online.
After mentioning in the online group that I believed that the difference was that there was a broader acceptance of the homosexual community in Hawaii, and the promiscuous nature of homosexuality based on HIV/AIDS statistics which indicates that gay males make up only 2% of the US population, but are 44 times as likely to contract aids as heteroseuxals, or that that 2% of the population (gay males) are responsible for having over 58% of new HIV infections.
Before there was any questions or debate, my comments were deleted, and I was prevented from commenting in the group further. Yet a lot of accusations, and shade was cast my way. So I wanted to make some clarifications. I have done some research on this data and have further illustrated my points.
However I was able to indicate in the conversation, that after reading the study, the information was not collected on anyone except for “women seeking men”. The homosexual side of these demographics were not considered at all.
However when I found I was blocked from the group, I wrote the admin of the group. This was my message.
This what I wrote to Joel (another participant in this conversation, that I can not respond to now) about the sex worker conversation:
Since the post in question was shut down, I will answer your assertion of me here in this message:
“Ryan Thompson, it is clear from you comment above that you A, do not know many or perhaps any gay people, and B, are too frightened of them to learn anything real. The days of out and proud promiscuity died with tens of thousands of gay men in the 1980’s and early ’90’s. Gay men and women today are much more balanced about their identities on the whole, living in monogamous relationships like most of the rest of us. They marry, love argue and work it out just like any married couple, and they don’t go running off the a gay prostitute whenever the mood strikes them. It is provincial ignorance like this that keeps people in the dark, and makes articles like this so “shocking.””
My response: So I am very well acquainted with homosexuals, and consider a few of my closest friends homosexual.
The startling thing to me however, is that only 2% of the population are gay males, and 58% of new HIV infections come from this tiny population of people.
It is very scary.
I support gay marriage, and I think it helps with promoting monogamous relationships.
This is an article that I wrote about it. And I posted my videos from social media throughout the years of me supporting gay marriage.
The admin wrote me:
You were accusing the gay community of being the reason f the high percentage of paid sex encounters in Hawaii, and that was after the main commenter said we should go after the disease
Your comment came out of nowhere. Is there data to support that point?
My response:
So what i was reading was from the article, which did not define whether it was men seeking men, women seeking men, etc.. it just said that Hawaii was the highest rate of online sex purchases. My comment was about homosexuality being prominent in Hawaii and i did give a study showing the top 3 states for homosexuality and Hawaii was one of the top 3, i posted that study from Penn State (edit: I meant UCLA), but I see now my comments were deleted. I think I have it opened on my browser at home, ill screenshot it later if it is, since my comments were deleted. But then someone quoted out of the study (not the article that you posted, but the language from the article) showing that the study was conducted for women seeking men and nothing else. At which point I replied and conceded that I was wrong.
And as I pointed out in the article that I wrote several years ago, is that the homosexual male population is much more promiscuous than the heterosexual population, which is the reason that the homosexual population (gay males) make up only 2% of the USA population, yet 58% of new HIV/AIDS infections come from that 2%. So I asserted that Hawaii’s higher than average population of homosexuals could very well be the reason for higher than average online sex purchases
The admin replied
Which group pays for sex more frequently? Is there any data that was support that point?
That supports
I was still replying when I posted the comment above, and I continued:
But I did concede that the study was not done regarding gay people ONLY heterosexuals. But based on the information in the article, that was not obvious. When I read the study itself (outside of the article that you posted), Iconceded that the article was not at all about homosexuality, ONLY about “women seeking men”
To his point above, while I was still writing, I followed up with:
I don’t know, I haven’t had time to research it. But i will definitely write an article tonight to show my findings (in addition to the article that I had already referenced from UCLA)
I further followed up with these two studies in fact showing that homosexual men are far more likely to buy and sell sex online that heteroseuxal men.
Ok so yes. Homosexuals are about 45 times more likely to be involved in sex work than heterosexuals according to the studies that I have found.

And…
And from the article that I referenced from the ACLU, linking Hawaii to having a larger than most other US states homosexual population.
LGBT Percentages Highest in Washington, DC, and Hawaii – Williams InstitutePrevious
Gay Men 44 Times More Likely To Get HIV
In conclusion, just like the song Pepper from the Butthole Surfers, as I see it, my words are warnings to those who are young and/or reckless. Heed caution to the homosexual lifestyle, AIDS is a terrible way to die. We all die, but I would prefer a less horrible as a death sentence, and for God sake, if you are gay get married already, please.
I also made a video about Hollywood and the music industry’s focus on forcing gay culture.
